After everything I'd tested, I was ready to give up on finding anything that worked.
Not because the solution was impossible — but because no one in the pet industry had ever cared enough to build it.
Then a colleague mentioned something that stopped me cold.
She told me about a team of engineers she'd worked with — the people who design water purification systems for veterinary teaching hospitals.
The SAME systems we use in ICUs for our most critical patients.
I called them the next day.
When I explained what I was seeing — the bacterial contamination, the kidney failures, the cats refusing to drink — they weren't surprised.
"The pet fountain industry has never used hospital-grade technology," one of them told me. "It's too expensive. There's no incentive. Basic fountains sell fine."
That's the moment I knew we had to build it ourselves.
Months passed. Multiple prototypes. Dead ends.
But we knew exactly what it needed to do.
Solve all four layers of the contamination problem — the surface, the water, the filtration, and the settling.
The surface had to be 316 surgical-grade stainless steel — the same grade surgeons put inside the human body. Hip replacements. Heart stents. Because at the microscopic level, it's so smooth that bacteria physically cannot grip onto it.
We added UV sterilization — the same technology used in hospital operating rooms — running 24/7. It doesn't filter bacteria. It kills it. Destroys the DNA. Dead bacteria can't multiply. Can't form biofilm. Can't create the smell your cat detects.
We built in continuous water circulation — the same principle behind every natural stream your cat's ancestors survived on. The water never stops moving. Biofilm needs stillness to form — like algae needs a pond. This never gives it the chance.
And triple-stage filtration — the same system used in veterinary ICUs — to strip out the chlorine, heavy metals, and pharmaceutical residue your tap water carries that your cat can taste but you can't.
Four layers. Working together. Remove any one and the system fails.
Think of it like a bathtub. You can have the cleanest tub in the world. You can add chlorine to the water. But if it sits still for 24 hours, a film still forms on top.
Now imagine the bathtub is also a jacuzzi. Jets keep the water moving. The chlorine keeps killing bacteria. The surface stays clean.
No film. No smell. Clean water, always.
After several months and 13 prototypes later…
We finally built the final product!
